Name: Kage Te
Age: Unknown, mid-20's
Appearance: His appearance is almost as enigmatic as he is. His steely gray eyes peek out from behind a black cloth mask, and he's usually seen (if at all) swathed in black and gray cloth. A medallion keeps his cloak wrapped around him, and it bears the engraving of a hand with an eye on the palm; the symbol of the Shadowhand. He is reserved in the way he holds himself, but underneath all of the drab cloth, there is a body honed by years of his "work." His clothes also hide a long scar that runs from his wrist to the inside of his elbow; a result of a botched job.
History: As much as he's purported to have a past clouded in mystery, Kage Te started life out as Fuyu Karosabe, the son of a fisherman in a coastal Earth Kingdom villager and an Earthbender who took care of her elderly parents. They met at a spring festival and were married for five years before Fuyu joined the family in the winter, and he was brought up to be a hardworking fisherman like his father. Working in a port brought tales of faraway lands and adventures of pirates and merchants alike. His mother taught him Earthbending as soon as he was able, and by the age of ten, he'd become proficient in the basics and wanted to learn more. She sent him to live with relatives in Ba Sing Se, and it wasn't until the house he was staying in was robbed while they slept that he took an interest in learning how to steal.

He met Aiya, an aspiring theif at the age of thirteen and picked up a few tricks from her; mostly bumping people and taking their coin purses. He made a small amount of gold from his ventures, but he sought to learn more, and his ambition led him to seek out other thieves via news of robberies around the lower ring of the city. He managed to impress a few of them by pulling off some higher-risk jobs, but nothing that made him stick out from the other thieves in the city.

Instead of pulling off high-profile heists, he decided to strike in another way: rumors. He managed to cross into the middle ring and loot a few houses, then left his mark, a hand with an eye in the palm, somewhere on the property to perpetuate word of a serial thief. The guards were on alert, but it wasn't until Fuyu met a man who practiced sleight of hand that he got his hands on the secrets of explosive powders and smoke. Slowly over the next few years, he built up a reputation of a "Shadow Thief" and started to make his mark on Ba Sing Se. Soon after, thieves around the city were intrigued by this new thief and sought him out in order to provide him with higher-risk jobs. He took them as he pleased, but a few noticeable heists had word spreading even faster.

After a few more years, Fuyu Kurosabe faded into obscurity, and a new persona surfaced: that of Kage Te, the Shadowhand. He works with a good portion of the city's thieves, coordinating high-profile heists to keep the legend of the Shadowhand alive; he even seeks to spread his reach into other regions of the Earth Kingdom.
Personality: There's really not much to say about Kage except for the fact that he maintains an aura of mystique to all but those very close to him. He hasn't let his reputation give him a swelled head, but he's very aware of his abilities and isn't afraid to use them. The downside to being who he is is that he cannot form real relationships, often alienating him from everyone around him, even his followers. He prefers it that way, though, and is a very dangerous thinker. He's also unable to go back to being the person he once was, as the guards in Ba Sing Se are constantly on the lookout for him or anyone involved in the Shadowhand.
