NAME: Dosu
AGE: 23
APPEARANCE: Tall and pale with a shaved head, Dosu invokes a demonic image even without his weapon of choice, the bladed gloves. His height, while impressive, makes his skinny frame all the more apparent. He is in the habit of shaving his eyebrows supposedly to make him look even more monstrous but in actuality it became a habit after emulating his friend Kugi Tang who did the same.
When in battle Dosu wears a black, metal-studded choker, a bright red changshan along with red flames painted on his bald head. During his off hours he dresses more conservatively and likes to downplay his height and dons gray kimono but keeps the choker on as he is self-conscious about his long neck.
Amidst all of his distinguishing features few seem to notice the tattoo of a flaming arrow on the back of his neck marking him as a member of the Gou family.
Unlike the rest of him Dosu's eyes are a plain brown which he sees as his best feature.
HISTORY: Dosu was the child of Earth Nation rebels operating inside of the Fire Nation. He grew up around people with extreme opinions but held none of his own. At the age of ten when his own father used him as a human shield during a raid Dosu formed his first strong feeling. He hated his father. Dosu's father never had the chance to be truly hated as he was killed by a Yu Yan archer via an arrow through his eye.
To his surprise and confusion the archer took in the boy as an adopted son. Over the years he would learn archery from his adopted father and become fiercely patriotic about his adopted country despite his less than enthusiastic adopted father.
Dosu joined the fire academy at the age of 15 with an eye towards joining the Yu Yan archers. To his disappointment his skills were not up to the challenge but his fallback position in the military was still available. The Anti-Resistance.
What started out as a grudge against his rebel parents became a genuine desire to protect his nation. Shortly into his first mission his deepest secret was nearly exposed to his immediate superior Kugi Tang. Dosu was an earth bender.
Rather than avoid his superior Dosu kept close and was personally trained in combat and spying by Tang.
Time passed. Dosu became good friends with Tang and fell in love with one of his fellow soldiers stationed on his ship, the Qilin. During a raid on a rebel stronghold Dosu was caught along with his friend and Xue the woman he loved. As a form of torture his fingernails were pulled out. Since then Dosu had been especially bitter towards the Earth Kingdom for what they did to him.
The bitterness turned into seething rage once his wife Xue was killed by an Earth Nation rebel by the name of Kuma Takeda. The final straw was that Takeda was not killed or imprisoned for his crime, rather kept alive as an example of Fire Nation victory.
Dosu has since vowed to kill both Kuma as well as his old friend Kugi Tang.
PERSONALITY: Since the death of his wife Dosu has discarded most of the remnants of his old life and lives mostly for revenge. He has developed a loathing for the Fire Nation as well as the Earth Nation for the parts both played in his life.
He has also displayed some sadistic tendencies and in particular loves in instill fear. Dosu has come to resent anybody and everybody simply for being alive and happy while his wife is dead and he suffers. The only time he truly feels at peace is feeding the koi his deceased wife brought from the Fire Nation which he keeps hidden in plain sight in New Ozai.
He greatly looks forward to being done with his revenge and joining his wife in the afterlife.
