If you have any questions we can answer to help you plan your story arcs and site-wide contributions better, please use this thread to your heart's content and Gia and A Long Display Name Here will answer as soon as possible.

If you simply want to run ideas by us, that's okay too! To be honest, we will probably say YES to your contributions (though they might need a bit of tweaking to fit the key plot points we have planned), so ask away!

On that note, please do not ask us about:

Canon AtLA/Korra information (see the [rulesfaq] for more info)
Whether or not your character can be an avatar (this is best suited in a PM to Gia and Kami)

Hi everyone! Let's pretend this isn't a day late ;x Welcome to the brainstorming thread!

It's always been a rule on TARP that your personal life and obligations come first. We have no intention of changing that. But... when we do have time, while we have a lot of one-on-one character arcs that are doing really well, we don't have a lot of contribution to the overall arching plot. Time shifts and news stories serve their purpose, but we think it's high time we started getting to the meat of the story.

While Gia and Kami do have eventual milestones for the plot, we need some help getting there! So, we're opening the floor (so to speak) to suggestions from you, the members, about what would encourage a more active participation beyond individual character threads.

You're welcome to suggest anything, from actual story line content, to forum practices and function, whatever it is you think would make TARP a little bit more lively in the overall plot department.

The only thing we ask is to keep it kind and civil. We likely will not change the base forum rules, but we'll give all other suggestions consideration.

Missing benders reappear

No Memory, No Information... No Bending.

Republic City (AP) — In a bittersweet turn of events, six families woke up this morning to find their missing loved ones unceremoniously dumped in front of their homes. The missing benders, most notably the retired probender Liang Wulong, have been returned safely and physically unharmed — but completely unable to bend.

"It's... different, somehow," says a returned victim who does not wish to be identified. "It's not like chi-blocking, where you can feel your abilities as if from behind a wall. It's just... nothing. Like it never existed."

Healers at Republic City Hospital are baffled. "There is, physically, nothing wrong with any of them," says a hospital spokesperson. "Despite extensive testing with both modern technology and waterbending, each victim shows no sign of any harm or disability. No chakra points were blocked, there was no mind-altering like in the historic case of Dai Li brainwashing, and bloodbending has not been used to alter their abilities. The only diagnosis we are able to provide at this time is that the individuals in question are nonbenders, and from a physiological standpoint they might as well have been nonbenders from birth."

When asked about their captivity, the victims were unable to provide any new information to the police. "I don't know," said Liang Wulong. "I came home and there was a weird sort of quiet about the house. Then everything went black — I felt no pain, I just blacked out." This is in direct contradiction to what the RCPD found at the scene the morning after Wulong disappeared, as there was evidence of a struggle in the master bedroom. Wulong insists that he has no memory of an altercation. "I don't know," he repeated. "Everything just went black."

As far as the rumours of the Galgori Six having orchestrated these disappearances, newly-appointed Chief of Police Jin Calayag insists there is nothing to fear. "There has never been any proof, historically, of the existence of the Six, just rumour and circumstantial evidence. What we are most likely looking for are disgruntled members of the Equalist movement who fell for Amon's schemes. My working hypothesis is an advanced form of chi-blocking that, with time, the talented staff at Republic City Hospital will figure out how to reverse."

In the meantime, Chief Calayag urges anyone with information to contact the RCPD by asking the operator to connect to Downtown 0275 and offers a ¥ 1,000 reward for information that leads to the capture of the perpetrator or perpetrators of these kidnappings.

Has anyone noticed a new courier company lately? As I, your "man-about-town" Kim Eun Jung made my rounds this week, I noticed an increasing amount of couriers in a uniform I'm not familiar with. Every time I tried to get a closer look, though, they'd disappear into the crowd. I tried asking at City Hall if anyone had applied for a new business license for messaging services, but the answer was 'no'. I had no luck with the RCPD either and the front desk very helpfully told me to 'stop wasting police time'. If you've seen one of these mysterious delivery boys, write to me, Kim Eun Jung, care of the Republic City Times to tell me your story!		Dear Rohana: New neighbours recently moved into the unit below mine and I just can't stand how much noise their baby makes! It cries so much, even in the middle of the night. Then on top of that, they don't make an effort to participate in the neighbourhood community! How do I tell my new neighbours to get with the program without seeming unfriendly? — SLEEPLESS IN THE BOROUGHS Dear SLEEPLESS: I hate to break it to you, but you are unfriendly. I guarantee those new parents are keenly aware that their baby is crying. I can only presume that you've never had the task of raising a child if you think it is within the parents' constant control to make sure the baby is silent. Babies cry. They cry when they're hungry, when they're tired, when they're upset, when they're sick. That's just a fact of life. If you want to actually be a good neighbour, why don't you try to help? Bake a casserole for them so they don't have to juggle the baby and making dinner; offer to babysit so that they can get a break; return their rubbish bins to their spot so they don't have to. Try and be understanding to the fact that they're dealing with a brand new little person in their lives. I think you'll find that with renewed energy your new neighbours will be much better company during your neighbourhood get-together, provided you get used to babies doing what they do. — Rohana

The Golden Fan Saloon
Dragon Flats District

A run-down wooden building that may have once been some sort of yellow, The Golden Fan Saloon (or 'The Fan' as it is affectionately referred to by its regulars) is your one-stop shop for cheap food, cheap booze, live entertainment, and some completely, 100% friendly and not at all shady gambling. The waitstaff are all gorgeous women who can, and if required to will, knock some sense into people with wandering hands. The owner of The Fan has declared it a neutral zone where benders and nonbenders alike can take a load off after a hard day's work. Drunken fights are not uncommon, but all grudges are left at the double swinging doors or the big muscle-y doormen will gladly see you out.

The Lotus Café
Downtown Republic City

The Lotus Café is a tea shop owned by the Jeon family, located just on outside the borders of the Dragon Flats District. Its proprietor, a pleasantly plump, dark-skinned woman named Hoshi, is a kind, mothering sort who takes care of her patrons. The Lotus Café is known locally for its tea ceremonies and Hoshi's skill at pairing teas and confections together perfectly.

**Note: please do not use Hoshi much in your RP beyond food service. She is a retired OC created by A Long Display Name Here, but the café itself is used frequently despite Hoshi not being an actively played character anymore. Thank you.

Lemurland
Dragon Flats District

This lounge and jazz bar is known for its sultry tunes, dancing events, and an impressive menu that — despite the low price — regulars say would give Kwong's a run for its money. There is a single-bedroom apartment unit available for rent above the bar; its former occupant vacated the premises rather unexpectedly and left behind all their furniture, gently used.

Songbird's Rest
Market Borough

Owned by an old firebender known to most only as @grandma, Songbird's Rest is a full-service traditionally styled inn complete with hot springs. Weary travellers frequent this inn on their travels into Republic City, and locals often stay for a mini-vacation on the weekends. Songbird's Rest is located on the very outskirts of the Market Borough, nearly at the city limits.

**Note: @grandma is not an NPC. Unless you are actively plotting with A Long Display Name Here to involve Grandma in your RP, please do not include her in your threads beyond a passing mention.

Little Dragons Circus
Dragon Flats District

Established nearly eighty years ago around the founding of Republic City, the Little Dragons Circus is a common sight for anyone who has ever been to Republic City. They had formerly resided in Downtown but moved when it came under new ownership. Under @jyrell 's ownership, the circus has been located in the Dragon Flats for about a year, growing in popularity since the move, especially towards nonbenders. It is filled to the brim with people of all shapes, sizes, and talents: from strongmen who can crush skulls, to acrobats that could leap across buildings, their cast is diverse. Benders welcome and they are featured very prominent in the Big Top show. Jyrell made sure to keep their prominence in harmony with the nonbending cast in order to prevent complaints from Reformists about inequality which would then eventually fold out into other subjects like salary.

100 wounded in devastating attack

No sign of perpetrators in mysterious Koh Festival attack.

Republic City (AP) — A hundred nonbenders are injured as a result of an attack just outside the Temple of Koh in the Dragon Flats District. The incident seems to be shrouded in mystery. A volunteer spokesperson for the Monks of Koh has stated that the Monks called the police as the incident was unfolding, but did not receive a response to their call for assistance. Fifteen people are listed in critical condition, and among the injured are five small children under the age of ten.

According to sources close to the injured, the perpetrators bore insignias from the Terra, Red Monsoon, Agni Kai, and Triple Threat Triads. The Times spoke to several of the lesser-injured parties within the Temple grounds who confirmed the witness' statements.

A spokesperson for the Republic City Police Department states: "While this is certainly a very large-scale tragedy there is simply no proof that this was a coordinated attack between all four Triads. The services of the RCPD were never requested, and we cannot launch an investigation with no evidence. The RCPD extends its deepest sympathies to the injured and their families and wishes them all a swift recovery."

Similarly, the City Hospital cited a lack of request for healers. "Healers are not welcome at the Temple," says Doctor Sung Chien, "and we were never asked to assist."

The spokesperson for the Monks refutes this claim. "We always ask," they said. "They never want to come. They're too afraid."

If you are interested in helping the injured, the Monks of Koh have set up a donation station outside the Temple gates, manned by volunteers. They request spare bandages, healing herbs, knife sharpeners and whetstones, and any other extra medicinal supplies that can be spared, such as disinfectant. Volunteers are also needed to assist with medical tasks, such as burn treatment and bone setting. Any one with a healer background, including benders, are requested to assist. Waterbender healers must report to the Head Monk for further instruction.

Investigators baffled; no sign of entry, exit, or struggle.

Republic City (AP) — In a shocking and dismaying start to the new year, Police Chief Sunwoo Tai was found dead at his home today. Investigative colleagues checked in on the Chief when he failed to show up for duty this morning; lack of response alarmed the officers at the scene, and upon forcing the home open found Chief Sunwoo on the entry way floor. The coroner estimates the time of death around 11:30 PM yesterday evening.

The RCPD is baffled by the scene of the crime. "We have discovered no forced entry or exit to the home at this time," says acting Chief of Police, Captain Jin Calayag. "There is no sign of disturbance, all the locks on the windows and doors were in place, and Chief Tai's body shows no sign of struggling against his assailant or assailants."

Calayag, however, refuses to comment on what other state the body was left in. Several officers were seen rushing out of the building in distress, unwilling or unable to talk about what they had seen. When the emergency response satomobile arrived, reporters and bystanders were escorted roughly one hundred yards away from the entrance as the body was removed from the premises under a black drop cloth.

Despite the lack of evidence, the RCPD is calling this a homicide. "Chief Tai's wounds were clearly not self-inflicted," Calayag stated. "We also found a piece of paper with a strange marking next to his body: three circles inside a lightning bolt." When pressed about the possible involvement of the Six, the acting Chief was emphatic: "We have no reason to believe that the Six exist at this time."

The public is encouraged to call the RCPD by asking the operator to connect to Downtown 0275 with any information, no matter how minor, about this symbol or any suspicious activity in the northeast corner of the Sun Temple District. A reward of ¥ 10,000 will be awarded to any person with information that leads to an arrest.

Captain Calayag will remain acting Chief until a new one is appointed by the Council; Calayag is no stranger to the job, having been appointed as acting Chief when Chief Bei Fong was pronounced dead two years ago.

Chief Tai is survived by his parents, Amaya and Leng. His two cats, Mao and Pochi, are available for adoption at the Republic City Animal Shelter for a ¥ 20 adoption fee. The Tai family asks that any gifts or donations be sent instead to the Monks of Koh, in Chief Tai's name.

Ex-Probender Missing!

Liang Wulong Missing for Three Days; Signs of Struggle at Scene. Republic City Police Baffled as Search Continues.	Dear Rohana: Nonbenders deserve whatever they get!
REPUBLIC CITY (AP) — Former earthbender for the Floating Lotus probending team has been reported missing by his wife, Xian-zhi Wulong. Liang Wulong was last seen three days ago at the Probending Arena during the annual season-opener dinner. Mrs. Wulong had been visiting relatives in the country that evening and upon returning to her home the following morning found it in complete disarray. What appeared to be a home-invasion took a dark turn as Mrs. Wulong discovered no items were missing, and there were signs of a struggle in the master bedroom. Spokesperson Officer Lee Chu for the RCPD states that it is likely that Wulong disappeared between 1AM and 2AM three days ago, based on the records of the taxi company that states he was dropped off at his residence shortly after 12:45AM. "It is our belief," Officer Chu said, "that Mr. Wulong interrupted an unknown burglar or burglars when he arrived at his residence and was subsequently involved in an altercation." It is uncertain at this time if Wulong left the premises voluntarily or under coercion. When pressed for details about the disappearance, Office Chu stated, "The RCPD has no comment at this time." Further inquiries to the possible involvement of the rumoured Galgori Six were also met with no comment. Wulong's disappearance is the sixth such mysterious circumstance in the last two months. While the RCPD and the Council have categorically denied the existence of the Galgori Six and insist that the disappearances are unrelated, the tensions in the city are rising as prominent benders continue to go missing with no answers. — Hua Nianzu	DEAR ROHANA: I'm writing in reply to 'Nervous' from last week's midweek column. 'Nervous' is just trying so hard to be oppressed, when it's nonbenders to blame for the way things are. Who is being attacked? Benders! Nonbenders deserve what they get for causing these problems and perpetuating crime. — Fed Up in the UNR DEAR FED UP: I contemplated whether or not to select this letter for publication. I am not in the habit of printing such uneducated drivel, but I fear many in our fair city share your sentiments. You say 'Nervous' has nothing to fear, then end your letter by saying that nonbenders 'deserve what they get', despite there being zero evidence linking nonbenders to the disappearances. Even the Equalists, while comprised of nonbenders frustrated at the lack of equality they have in our so-called republic, was headed by a BENDER seeking to exact revenge on other BENDERS. And yet, and yet, you have chosen to believe that nonbenders deserve to have violence and other discriminatory acts inflicted upon them for 'causing' problems. My advice to you would be to examine your conscience and ask yourself why you are so eager to blame those who have zero power in our society for crimes the police can't solve. — Rohana

As some of you may have noticed, two plot NPCs have been added to the forum. How exciting!

But wait! you may say, what is a plot NPC?

What a very good and insightful hypothetical question, [#username] — thank you for hypothetically asking!

First of all, an explanation on NPCs as a whole. 'NPC' stands for Non-Player Character. This means that the character is not controlled by any specific player, and is generally used to provide additional characters for players to interact with. For example, if two characters are at a restaurant, a waiter serving them would be considered an NPC; the waiter is not officially a character, and since they are not 'owned' by either of the players, both players are able to use the waiter and control their actions.

Plot NPCs are a new mechanic here on TARP that the staff will be using to move our overarching storyline along. Unlike the usual NPCs, these are controlled by staff only. This is because, unlike regular NPCs, Plot NPCs are not arbitrary characters and will serve a functional purpose in drawing players into the main story line, rather than serving as a filler character for individual threads.

Another difference between a Plot NPC and a regular NPC is that Plot NPCs may show up uninvited in your threads. How your character(s) react to the arrival of an NPC is entirely up to you! And yes, you are more than welcome to take no action! The arrival of a Plot NPC does not, and will never, require you to participate in the main plot event.

Currently, there is one NPC: @messenger. NPCs have very specific functions for our story lines. @messenger will, of course, be primarily used for delivering messages. Future NPCs will have similarly specialise roles.

We have anticipated a few concerns, so a quick FAQ:

Q: Do Plot NPCs have profiles?
A: In a manner of speaking. You can view each NPC's information in the NPC Board

Q: Can we use the Plot NPCs in our threads?
A: Not exactly. If you would like your plot to be considered part of the overarching storyline, then please PM a staff member and we can discuss the plot + usage of Plot NPCs. The staff will, however, still be in control of the NPC during this time.

Q: Will Plot NPCs be able to enter characters' homes or otherwise private locations?
A: Absolutely not. We will be diligent in making sure that any thread we are considering inserting a Plot NPC into is located in a publicly accessible location: restaurants, civic buildings, a market place, and so on.

Q: What if I don't want to participate in the overarching plot?
A: That's completely fine! Not everyone wants to be in the thick of things, so you retain the choice to decide whether to play along when an NPC arrives. We do ask you acknowledge the NPC's appearance, but you are free to direct your character to ignore them, walk away, etc.

Q: May I make an NPC suggestion?
A: Certainly! Make sure that it will serve the overall forum plot. We will not be accepting suggestions for generic NPCs such as tea shop workers and the ilk. If you have a suggestion, please PM Gia or A Long Display Name Here.

Q: Will more NPCs be added in the future?
A: Yes indeed! We are currently not at liberty to say what kind of NPCs will be added, however. You'll just have to wait and see.

Q: How involved in my threads might a Plot-NPC be? If I want to interact with one, will they be like another character that is fully involved for the duration of the thread, or should I only expect one or two posts from them?
A: This will depend on the Plot NPC and their role. For example, @messenger will likely only be in a thread for a post or two because their function is to deliver a message only, but another NPC like a faction spokesperson may stick around for longer because of their active role in the community and in engaging with people. Any future Plot NPCs will have similar stipulations on their interactive ability, but we will strive to make it obvious either in their NPC profile or by their name (or both) what their function is so you can tell. Of course, if you wish to interact with an NPC longer than they would normally, you're free to send a PM to Gia or A Long Display Name Here and we can discuss what you had in mind.

Hey everyone,

This isn't an easy notice to put up, and we regret having to do so. But, after a lot of fighting a lot of different factors contributing to our decline in activity, we feel it's time to give in and permanently close TARP's doors.

As of February 1st, new registrations will be disabled. As a courtesy to our current members, all non-roleplay boards will be turned into read-only archives; the RP boards themselves will remain open for any current members who wish to continue RPing. If you choose to stay, please note that the site rules and FAQ, as well as the ProBoards ToS, still apply. Alternatively, you are welcome to continue RPing off-site, via Dropbox, Google Docs, email, or whatever avenues you desire. Please also feel free to keep in contact with your friends from TARP if they're okay with that.

We want to thank all of our members — past and present, new and old — for making TARP such an enjoyable experience for the past eight years. We've made some great friends, stories, and memories with each other, and we're so grateful that you chose to spend your valuable time with us.

Happy December, Everyone!

As promised, here is the new layout! We know it's drastically different from our previous layout, but after a lot of feedback we decided to go with a simple, yet elegant solution in order to best accommodate our members' needs. Our new layout has bigger default text, a more contrasted colour scheme, and a clearer board layout to help all of our members navigate the site with greater ease.

With this new layout update also comes a few site-wide updates:

• Rules & FAQ Update The Rules and FAQ have been updated to be more shorter and more concise. They have also received new URLs and an aesthetic face lift. You can find them in the menu bar at the top of the forum under "Rules" and "FAQ", respectively.
• Plot Update & Timeshift With this update TARP is shifting into the autumn / winter season in the roleplay. Players are asked to wrap up any summertime plots within the next two weeks and are welcome to begin autumn / winter plots immediately.

• Newbie Guide TARP now also has a Newbie Guide! You can find the Newbie Guide in the menu bar at the top of the forum. This guide is designed to help newcomers get started with our roleplay.

We recommend all current members also check out the newbie guide, as it will help navigate the new layout's features.
• Forum Awards We are also reinstating monthly awards! We will be keeping a look out for members and threads to spotlight on a monthly basis. Work hard, and you may see yourself featured in our announcements table.
• Updated Smileys A minor update, but a fun one. TARP has new emoticons, as shown below. Yay! Enjoy.

Happy 8^th Birthday to TARP! Thanks to everyone for making this so enjoyable and successful!
NPC Profiles Board is now available! As the name suggests, we are now accepting applications for non-player characters. These NPCs will be available for all roleplayers to use in their stories. Since they are NPCs, members are allowed to add to the characters' stories as well! All NPC applications must be sent to a staff member for review; the Mod Squad account will post the profile upon acceptance.

Update 10.07.2013:

Just so everyone knows, the Banned & Wanted List has been updated! As of today, we are no longer accepting metalbending police officers or detectives. Our earthbender population is currently split 50/50 between metalbenders and regular earthbenders, so we'd like to get more earthbenders around before we open this up again.

We are, however, accepting non-metalbending, non-cop/non-detective police personnel! Booking officers, evidence room officers, desk clerks, and so on are more than welcome. Remember, it takes more than cops to make a police station — the police headquarters — function.

Hello everyone! It's time for this month's announcements & updates.

FIRST: Let's wish TARP a happy birthday! We will be celebrating our 8th birthday on Tuesday, October 8th. A big shout out to Gia for making TARP possible, and a big thank you to all of you for sticking with us. Here's to another RP-filled year!

SECOND: If you haven't already done so, please edit any of your accepted character applications to our new application template, located in the Application Rules & Templates thread. When you have finished, please send a PM to A Long Display Name Here with links to your edited profiles so they can be re-locked. If you need to make an edit to your profile, please let a staff member know what you are editing in.

THIRD: If you enjoy TARP and are on any social network sites, please feel free to share the link to TARP! We would love to see more roleplayers join in. Once the awards system is in place, anyone who recruits a member that stays active for at least 30 days will receive a recruitment award.

FOURTH: We now have the Galgori page updated, so click the link to learn more about our original race and their current & previous involvement in the site canon. Galgori OCs are more than welcome as well, so we hope to see some apps for them sometime! If you have any questions about the Galgori, please post in this thread.

• Rules & FAQ Update	The Rules and FAQ have been updated to be more shorter and more concise. They have also received new URLs and an aesthetic face lift. You can find them in the menu bar at the top of the forum under "Rules" and "FAQ", respectively.
• Plot Update & Timeshift	With this update TARP is shifting into the autumn / winter season in the roleplay. Players are asked to wrap up any summertime plots within the next two weeks and are welcome to begin autumn / winter plots immediately.
