Jeong Seina is an average man, of average height, leaning towards tall (1.85 m), who worked for most of his life to maintain a great muscular physique, as was necessary for his line of work. His skin is light brown, and he has black hair and green, intense eyes that are made intimidating by the shape of his eyebrows above. He always keeps his hair buzzed short, the sides and back faded, and lets it grow a bit on the top of his head. The shape of his face has something heroic about it. Like the princes in the fairy tales, he has a strong square jaw, and he keeps his face clean-shaven. His ears are notable because they poke out a bit, but no one would dare mention them around him.
He usually wears a dark brown newsboy hat when he's not inside the ring. It's part of his look at the gym and in the streets. His attire could be considered casual, most of the time. He's seen wearing a white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and at least three of the top buttons undone, revealing the tanktop he's wearing underneath, along with dark brown trousers and leather suspenders, which hang down more often than not, but when the days are cold, he'll put on a tan longcoat he owns, and an olive sleeveless knit vest, so that he'll brave it. If the occasion arises, he will clean up nicely and wear a three piece suit. He owns two of them, one is tan and the other is pinstripe grey. He was reported wearing a tux once, but he never repeated it.
Back when he first participated in pro-bending matches, there was no safety gear. He fought shirtless, with slack trousers to allow free movement and bare foot. Now, in the rare occasion that he will step back into the ring, he wears the gear with the colors of his team, the Seina Armadillo Lions.
His age shows in the crow's feet on the sides of his monolid narrow eyes, but other than that he has braved the years valiantly, looking at least five years younger than he truly is. If anything, he looks more formidable than men 10 years his junior.
Jeong Seina appears to be a stoic man, and for most part, he is, but what everyone fails to mention about him is that he is a visionary. He had a big part in the development of the sport that came to be pro-bending in the current day. It was his persistence that kept the effort going, and eventually led them to success.
However, there's more to him, stuff that the papers wouldn't write, because they didn't fit his pro-bending persona. They always wrote him about his strength and his steadiness in the ring, how he would remain stalwart in the face of adversity and at the same time loyal to his teammates, how he would rather fall off the ring than let his teammates take the plunge, all true, but still an incomplete description of him as a person.
Jeong is actually a gentle man, friendly, and always there to greet someone with a smile. He is well-liked by his trainees because of his supportive attitude and his positive reinforcement. He is hard-working, and he expects the same from his trainees, but he knows that everyone has their limits and he does his best to recognize them in each person.
Some people's limits are far below his, and he makes it his priority to be there for them and help them in their time of need, as well as interfere when someone would dare take advantage of them, even to his own detriment. He's a good friend to those that know him in everyday life, and fair to those that he doesn't know. Be it a bender or a non-bender, he will treat them the same way, as long as they don't hurt someone else.
The gist of it is that if you're nice, he'll be nice. If you're not nice, he won't be nice either, and you won't like him when he's not nice, because he may get not-nice to the point that someone will have to call the cops and stop him.
Jeong Seina was born and raised in Republic City, and he witnessed its development. His mother is a non-bender, and his father an earthbender from Ba Sing Se, a businessman of high statute, and the creator of the Seina legacy. He is the second of five sons. The oldest brother of his is a non-bender, as is the middle son, and the second youngest.
From a young age he learned the value of hard work and the importance of training both his body and his mind. He was sent to the Beifong Metalbending Academy at the age of ten to train under Toph Beifong. It was there that he honed his skills as an earthbender and a metalbender. He thrived under her mentorship.
His family had high expectations from him, but his oldest brother excelled much more than him in all things intellectual, and he possessed the business savvy the family business required, and so he stepped aside for him to take the reins without letting a rivalry brew between them. His father's disapproval and his favoring of his bender sons made Jeong grow bitter, and knowing that it wasn't only him with such a low opinion of non-benders, he set a different course for himself.
He joined the RCPD when he came of age, aiming to serve the Republic with fairness and justice, but his viewpoint was restricted by paperwork and rules that he didn't always want to follow. He grew angry under all the red tape that kept him from doing what believed to be his job, and he looked for a way to channel that anger into something productive.
That's when pro-bending came to play. At first it was a hobby of friends that wanted to throw down, and then it became a much larger idea. It was cathartic, in a way, and at the same time invigorating, both for the fighters and the audience. While only benders could participate in the ring, it was a spectacle for benders and non-benders alike. Jeong understood its potential, and so helped promote it.
It took several years to convince the United Republic Council to establish pro-bending as an official sport. There were qualms about its violent nature. However, with the support of the citizens of Republic City, as well as the patronage of people of a higher status, including the Seina family, pro-bending was recognized as a sport, and would later be hosted in Yue Bay, in the specialized Pro-Bending Arena that soon became one of the main attractions of Republic City.
He didn't stop there. Not only did he help make pro-bending an official sport, he competed for a good number of years. He founded the Seina Armadillo Lions, which was financed by his older brother, and he became a pro-bending sensation for almost two decades, famous for his earthbending, as well as the skillful bending of the rules to his advantage. He was bold, and sometimes he fought dirty to protect his team, but never had he ever gotten disqualified because of his tricks.
His retirement was announced so that new blood would step on the ring, and he didn't leave the scene entirely. He became the mentor of the new Seina Armadillo Lions and stayed behind to train them. Later on he would build his own gym, which was open to all, benders and non-benders. He built it to be a safe haven for all, and a temple for sculpting the body. He made it a rule for all not to bring their grievances within those walls, and if a fight ever broke out, the instigators would be banned for life.
He runs this gym to present day, because it is needed, now more than ever. He is paying attention to the strife between benders and non-benders, and he works hard to not let it get into his gym, like it got into the Pro-Bending Arena. He will guard his life's work with tooth and nail if he has to, but no one, not Equalists or fanatic benders will step into his gym and start trouble if he has something to say about it.
